Vendor shot due to gambling?

LUCENA CITY— A dry goods vendor who got involved in bookie operation several times was gunned down by two unidentidied men riding in tandem on a motorcycle at Brgy. 2, here, on Saturday.

Police identified the victim as Shervin Hermedilla Suarez alias Diego/Sherwin, 23,  and resident of Purok Atin Atin 1, Bgy. Marketview.

Probers said the incident happened while Suarez was driving his Toyota Wigo at 6:45 p.m.

Upon reaching a road corner, they said the suspects suddenly opened fire hitting Suarez several times.

The back rider then alighted from the bike, dragged the victim from the car and pumped more bullets resulting to his death, they said.

The suspects sped off leaving the victim lying dead on the street.

He was rushed to the hospital by residents but it was too late.

Probers revovered 6 spent shells for cal. 45 at the crime scene.

Rumors have it that the gruesome killing was related to bookies or illegal gambling  as the  victim had been accused of being into illegal gambling on three separate occasions.

Police records show that violations of Republic Act 9287 (illegal gambling) had been filed by the police against the victim sometime in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

But the police said they are still digging deeper into the incident to determine the motive behind it.
