GOVERNMENT forces intercepted a vessel loaded with more or less 10,000 cases of smuggled tobacco products during their operation the other day in Tara Island, Siasi, Sulu.
This was confirmed yesterday by Major Arvin Encinas, spokesman of AFP- Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom).
He said the vessel was intercepted last Sunday afternoon. According to Rear Adm.Erick Kagaoan, commander of the Naval Forces Western Mindanao, the Naval Task Group Sulu intercepted M/L 3 Brothers through the intelligence efforts of their different units.
The vessel was loaded with smuggled tobacco products from Malaysia.
Kagaoan said he said the crew members of the vessel failed to present legal documents or permits of the shipments.
The vessel was also loaded with approximately 200 sacks of ammonium nitrate with an estimated market value of P150,000,000.
Lt.Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, commander of Westmincom commended the troops in their successful operation.
The intercepted vessel and the confiscated items were temporarily placed under the custody of the Naval Forces Western Mindanao at Ensign Majini Pier, Naval Station Romulo Espaldon, Bagong Calarian, for proper documentation and disposition.
