Village chief held for gun, ammo

BALETE, Batangas -- The incumbent village chieftain here was arrested for possession of gun and ammo by joint authorities during the implementation of a search warrant in his residence in Bgy. San Sebastian here the other day, a police report said.

Batangas police director P/Col. Edwin A. Quilates identified the suspect as  59-year-old Barangay Captain Gerardo Villanueva.

He said the suspect was nabbed by joint operatives of Balete Municipal Police Station, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Team (CIDT) Batangas, and the Batangas Provincial Field Unit (BPFU) for violation of Republic Act 10591 at about 11 p.m.

The operating team confiscated from the suspect one Colt cal. 45 with serial number 770922, two  magazines, 16 pieces of live ammo for caliber 45, and a black sling bag.

Villanueva is an elected government official, incumbent chairman of Purok 4, Bgy. San Sebastian.  

On the other hand, 12 suspects were arrested for possessing illegal drugs during a series of buy-bust operations conducted by the local police units.

Meanwhile, a drug personality identified as Rodrigo Javier Andres, 41, jobless and resident of National Highway, Purok II, Bgy. Makiling, Calamba City, Laguna was killed during the implementation of a search warrant for violation of Section 11 Article II of R.A. 9165 in Sto Tomas, Batangas.

A search warrant for the same violation was previously implemented by Calamba MPS operatives against Andres last April 10, however, the suspect eluded the arrest.
