Village chief’s murder probed

POLICE Regional Office 2 director, Brigadier General Jose Mario M. Espino yesterday ordered a thorough investigation of the murder of a barangay captain in Tuao, Cagayan late afternoon Monday.

In a directive, the Cagayan Valley police director ordered Cagayan Police Provincial Office director, Colonel Ignacio Cumigad to create a special investigation task group that will spearhead the probe into the identities and motive of the killer and all efforts to arrest and jail him and his possible cohorts.

Espino said that an initial investigation showed that a still unidentified gunman shot and killed Orlino Gannaban, the 52-year old chairman of Bgy. Lallayug in Tuao municipality and wounded his ‘tanod’ Espidio Zingabo, 69, during the 3:30 p.m. Monday attack.

Investigators said that Gannaban was about to drive his motorcycle on his way home when the gunman suddenly opened fire at him without any provocation.

The village chief suffered several gunshot wounds in the body and died on the spot while Zingabo was taken to the Tuao District Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound in the chest.
