WESTERN Mindanao policemen last week shot dead a heavily-armed drug trafficker and arrested 31 men facing various criminal charges, ranging from murder, incestuous rape, rape, drugs and theft, Police Regional Office 9 director, Brigadier General Froilan F. Quidilla announced yesterday.
In a report to Philippine National Police chief, General Oscar D. Albayalde, the official said the armed suspect identified as Rapsan Gumandol was killed in a shootout with undercover officers in Campo Mucas in Salug, Zamboanga del Norte past 5 p.m. last Sunday.
Quidilla said members of the PRO9 Regional Mobile Force Battalion and the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit, in coordination with the Salug Municipal Police Station conducted the buy-bust operation targeting Gumandol, dismissed policeman Sacur Aradani,33, and one Michael Uy.
However, the suspects apparently sensed the ongoing entrapment operation and engaged the officers in a shootout which led in the killing of Gumandol and the arrest of Aradani, a resident of Campo Mucas.
Quidilla said that Uy, who was believed to have been wounded in the gunfight managed to escape arrest and is still being hunted.
The PRO9 director said Gumandol yielded a loaded caliber .45 pistol while Aradani was found in possession of a hand grenade and four heat-sealed plastic sachets containing suspected shabu.

The suspect yielded 16 heat-sealed plastic sachets containing the so-called ‘poor man’s cocaine’ and the boodle money topped by two marked P100 bills during the entrapment operation triggered by a complaint forwarded to the PRO9 director’s hotline ‘I-Sumbong Mo, I-Action Ko.’
