AGENTS of the Regional Highway Patrol Unit 4-A early morning yesterday shot dead an armed most wanted car thief in Calabarzon region during an entrapment operation in Sto. Tomas City in Batangas which turned awry when the suspect sensed the sting and opened fire at the undercover officer, a report to Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group director, Brigadier General Eliseo DC Cruz said.

RHPU4-A chief, Lt. Col. Joel A. Ana identified the slain suspect as Dominador Espeleta, a resident of Barangay Putatan, Muntinlupa City who was linked to the illegal activities of the Landrito and Bombasi Organized Crime Groups operating in Batangas and other parts of Calabarzon region.

Ana  said the suspect was about to sell a suspected stolen motorcycle to an RHPU4-A operative around 12:10 a.m. yesterday in Barangay Sta. Teresita in Sto. Tomas City when he sensed the entrapment operation and fired a shot at the lawman before escaping on board the same motorbike.

The official said members of the Batangas Provincial Highway Patrol Team led by Captain Jet Sayno and the RHPU4-A Special Operations Team headed by Major Mark Green Lagura pursued the suspect who went towards the direction of Lipa City.

The suspect was later cornered and shot dead in an ensuing gunbattle, Ana said.

Recovered from the possession of the slain suspect were one loaded caliber .45 pistol and a Yamaha Mio Sporty motorcycle whose records are still being checked with the Land Transportation Office since it was placed in their alarm previously.
