Zambo cops hunt judge’s killers

TRACKER teams from the Zamboanga del Norte Police Provincial Office yesterday intensified their hunt for the killers of 62-year old Judge Reymar Lacaya of the Liloy Regional Trial Court Branch 28 on Thursday afternoon, Police Regional Office 9 director, Brigadier General Emmanuel Luis D. Licup said.

“I have ordered an all-out effort to identify and arrest the persons behind this senseless crime which we condemn in the strongest term,” said the Western Mindanao police director.

An investigation showed that the victim was shot dead by an unidentified assailant at the garage of the Liloy court in Barangay Baybay around 3:04 p.m. Thursday.

Members of the Liloy Municipal Police Station who responded to the shooting incident found the victim lying on the ground beside his Toyota Hilux and immediately rushed him to the Liloy Integrated District Health Hospital where an attending physician, Dr. Noel Herrera declared him dead upon arrival.

According to Licup, a security guard at the local court identified as Nathaniel Abajar told police investigators he accompanied the judge on his way to his vehicle parked at the garage located at the back portion of the quarters of former Judge Oscar Tomarong.

However, the victim instructed him to return to his office to get some documents he left. The guard said that a few minutes later, he heard two gunshots coming from where he left the victim.

The guard said that he later found the judge lying blooded beside his car prompting him to call for help.

Licup said that the victim was shot twice in the right face. He said that responding policemen recovered two spent caliber .45 cartridges at the scene.

Licup said that members of the Liloy police force are still interviewing witnesses who could help them identify and determine the motive of the killer and possibly his cohorts.
