Zamboanga Norte raids yield weapons, ammo

POLICE on Wednesday arrested three  men including a barangay captain for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition in Zamboanga del Norte, Police Regional Office 9 director, Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Luis D. Licup said yesterday.

The official identified the arrested suspects as Ranulfo Paglinawan, the chairman of Bgy. La Victoria in La Libertad, Zamboanga del Norte and his companion Christian Malacat and Amil Dayunot, a 44-year old resident of Sitio Sipaon in Rizal municipality.

Paglinawan was arrested after members of the Zamboanga del Norte Police Provincial Mobile Group Company, the local Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and the Dapitan City Police Station raided his house in Sitio San Roque in Bgy. Aseniero, Dapitan City at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The raiders were armed with a search warrant for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013 issued by Judge Hilario Jonathan Maagad of the Dapitan City Municipal Circuit Trial Court, Licup said.

The official said that the barangay captain was arrested when officers recovered one Carbine caliber 30 rifle with a magazine containing 10 bullets, a cal. .45 pistol with two magazines containing 18 live ammunition and two fragmentation grenades inside his house.

Licup said that Malacat who was inside the official’s residence was also placed under arrest after he yielded a cal. .38 revolver and 11 live ammunition.

The Western Mindanao police director said that his men also raided the house of Dayunot on the strength of a search warrant for violation of RA 10591 issued by Judge Vittorio Dante Dalman of the Rizal-Sibutad Municipal Circuit Trial Court an hour later.

The suspect was arrested after officers found an unlicensed caliber .45 pistol with a magazine containing seven live ammunition and  a cal. .38 revolver with eight bullets during the search.

Licup said that Paglinawan will be facing non-bailable offense for illegal possession of firearms and an explosive. The two other suspects will be charged for violation of RA 10591.
