136 new COVID-19 cases recorded by PNP

A report from the PNP Public Information Office said that apart from the 70 from RTC 7 and 32 from the NCRPO, the other new COVID-19 cases in the PNP are 9 from the Police Regional Office 4-A, 6 from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group,  3 each from the Special Action Force and Police Security and Protection Group, 2 each from Police Regional Offices 7,10, Police Community Affairs and Development Group and Headquarters Support Service, and 1 each from the Cordillera Police Regional Office, the PNP National Headquarter, Civil Security Group, Drug Enforcement Group and Aviation Security Group.

Non-renewal of teachers’ appointment denounced

In a complaint sent to the DepEd on July 23, the group stressed that the dismissal of provisional teachers  and threats of displacement are “inhumane” and go against the requirement for additional teachers in the implementation of the agency’s basic educationand learning continuity plan amid the pandemic and worsening economic conditions.

Intensified drive against smoking urged

In a scientific brief, the World Health Organization (WHO) said available evidence suggests an association between smoking and increased severity of disease and death in hospitalized COVID-19 patients. The WHO also urged tobacco users to stop the use of these harmful products given the well-established harms they cause, including cancer.
