NPA platoon leader, 2 others yield in Leyte

THREE New People’s Army members led by an NPA platoon leader in Eastern Visayas became the latest members to defect to the government and avail of a comprehensive livelihood program that will allow them and their families to return to the mainstream of the society, Philippine National Police chief, General Debold M. Sinas announced yesterday.

Citing a report from Police Regional Office 8 director, Brigadier Gen. Ronaldo F. de Jesus, the PNP chief said the three regular NPA fighters in Leyte yielded on Saturday afternoon to officers of the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company in Leyte.

De Jesus identified one of the three only thru his moniker ‘Ka Joseph’ of the NPA’s North Eastern Samar 2nd District Jorge Bolito Command and a platoon leader of the NPA’s Hamomong Platoon.

The official said the two others who yielded are known finance and medical officer of the NPA’s Banog Platoon Front Guerrilla Unit.

The trio turned- over a 12-gauge shotgun with two live ammunition, three caliber .38 revolvers with 10 bullets, one cal. .45 pistol with a loaded magazine, one KG-9 submachine gun with one magazine and 11 live ammunition and three rifle grenades.

Sinas instructed de Jesus to facilitate the grant of government benefits to these rebel returnees under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP).
