ORMOC City is ready and willing to lend a helping hand to the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) for the training of national athletes for the coming 31st Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam.

Mayor Richard Gomez said Ormoc is ready to answer the call of the PSC, which urged local government units to support and adopt national athletes currently training for the biennial competition scheduled Nov. 21-Dec 2.

I agree with the PSC na malaki talaga ang maitutulong ng mga LGUs ngayon when it comes to training of national athletes for the SEA Games,” Gomez told People’s Tonight during the weekly “Usapang Sports on Air” via Zoom last Saturday.

Yun mga LGUs na may mga facilities at training venues, kailangan talaga ngayon considering na very toxic ang Metro Manila because of the number of infections,” explained Gomez, who is also the second vice-president of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC).

As you know, yung fencing and modern pentathlon, dito na talaga nag-training sa Ormoc. If there are other sports na gustong mag-training dito, welcome sa amin. We can host them,” added Gomez.

My suggestion is to take a look at the venues dito sa Ormoc and check kung up to par sa mga needs nila, In fact, yung PHILSPADA, nakikipag-usap na sa akin kung pwedeng matulungan yun mga differently-abled athletes natin.

Gomez said the popular seaside city in the Eastern Visayas is capable of hosting several sports.

Marami kaming sports facilities dito like the Olympic-size swimming pool, boxing gym, superdome na parang basketball gym, track and field oval. Pati archery range at baseball field, meron kami dito. Kung sino yung willing na mag-bubble training dito sa Ormoc, basta aprubado ng PSC, walang problema sa amin.

Malaki ang priority sa akin ang sports dahil hindi lang nakatutulong ka sa national team, but pati sa community. Nakikita nila kung paano mag-train yung national team dahil they’ree free to watch.

Last week, the PSC and POC agreed to seek the help of the LGUs in the preparation of the Filipino athletes.

Baka may gusto magninong muna sa ating mga atletea, we are very open to this,” said PSC Commissioner Ramon Fernandez who also stands as the Chef de Mission to the SEA Games.
