A TOTAL of 1,201 families whose houses were razed by a recent fire in Sta. Cruz, Manila received much-needed support from the city government of Manila.

Mayor Honey Lacuna personally led the distribution of financial aid to the said families, as she expressed her deep sorrow that the fire even claimed a life. She was assisted in handing over the cash aid by Congressman Joel Chua, Vice Mayor Yul Servo, social welfare department chief Re Fugoso and the third district councilors, among them Councilor Jhong Isip, Fa Fugoso and Tol Zarcal.

Nakakalungkot po talaga dahil ngayon palang tayo bumabangon tapos tatamaan tayo ng ganitong uri ng trahedya,” she said.

Just the same, Lacuna expressed confidence in the resilience of Manilans, saying: Nakakalungkot po talaga pero tayong mga Manilenyo, babangon, babangon at babangon. Ganyan tayo katatag.”

In addition, she assured the fire victims that the city government will always be there to provide help the best way it can.

She said that while the financial help coming from the local government may not be that big, it is meant to somehow help them start anew and move on.

Lacuna vowed that if the fiscal condition of the city improves, she will provide them with another round of help. She gave a total of over P12 million at P10,000 each, along with food boxes.

It was learned that Rep. Chua gave P5,000 each and rice bags while the councilors gave bags of goods as well.
