Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna swiftly mobilized the Manila Social Welfare Department (MSWD) under Re Fugoso to extend assistance to the more than 3,000 individuals or 600 families who have been displaced by fire that hit a residential area in Isla Puting Bato in Tondo, Manila on Sunday morning.

It was learned that Lacuna is mulling the idea of finding another place for the residents of Isla Puting Bato saying the place is no longer safe for them after several fires already hit the area.

The fire victims will temporarily stay at the Delpan Evacuation Center.

Lacuna, it was learned, is also seeking for the Manila City Council to declare the affected barangays under a ‘state of calamity.’

“We will make sure the evacuees have cash aid, food and house reconstruction materials from our LGU, DSWD and hopefully from other sources as well. We must come together to help the fire victims in their hour of dire need,” Lacuna said.

It was learned that two Philippine Air Force (PAF) aircraft, four fire boats and 66 firetrucks of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) assisted to contain the fire that began at 8:02 a.m.

The situation was declared ‘under control’ at around 2 p.m. after the alarm reached ‘Task Force Charlie’

Investigation is underway to determine the cause of fire and damage to property.
