P19-M worth of shabu found in abandoned luggage at NAIA

An abandoned luggage containing around 2.8 kilos of suspected shabu was found by Customs officials at the Interline Baggage room customs arrival area at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 on May 17, 2023 (Wednesday).

According to newly-installed Customs- NAIA district collector Atty. Yasmin Mapa, the unaccompanied luggage (advance) arrived at the NAIA Terminal 1 last December 24, 2022 from Addis Ababa via Bangkok on board Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight PR 737, after its owner abandoned the said luggage.

Mapa said the luggage belonged to a certain Norman Penaflor and underwent X-ray scanning and found images of illegal drugs mixed with old clothing. When examined, it contains some 2.8 kilos of shabu wrapped in white plastic.

Apart from clothes, the said luggage also contained bags, pants and range tools. The shabu found had a street value of P19 million.

The seized drugs have been turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Administration (PDEA) for proper disposal.
