P2B agri products damaged by Rolly

 ALMOST P2 billion worth of agricultural products were damaged and loss due to the onslaught of super typhoon Rolly.

As of 12 noon Tuesday, the total value loss recorded by the Department of Agriculture (DA) was P1,999,819, 875 affecting 30,094 farmers/fisherfolk and 26,896 hectares.

The DA further reported that the total production loss was recorded at 116,963 metric tons, affecting the following commodities: rice, corn, high value crops (HVC) , livestock and agri-facilities.

Based on the record, the rice commodity has the highest amount of damage and losses with the total amount of P1,106,776,937 affecting 19,280 farmers and 20,013 hectares with total volume of production loss at 62,444 MT.

For HVC, the total amount of damage and losses was recorded at P790,997,927 affecting 9,673 farmers and 5,266 hectares with total volume of production loss at 50,581 MT.

For corn, the total amount of damage was recorded at P68,917,541 affecting 859 farmers and 1,618 hectares with total volume of production loss at 3,936 MT.

The total value loss for livestock and agricultural infrastructures/equipment were recorded at P269,520 and P10,575,000 respectively.

For fisheries (aquaculture) and fisheries (capture), the total value loss were recorded at P17,756,350 and 4,526,600, respectively.

The total damage and losses have been reported from the Regions CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, V and VIII.

The DA, however, assured the affected farmers and fisherfolk that assistance will be provided to them.

Among the assistance available for the fisherfolk include the distribution of tilapia and milkfish fry and fiberglass boats while vegetable, corn and rice farmers will be provided with rice, 133,326 bags; corn, 17,545 bags; assorted vegetables at 1,980 kilograms and assorted fruit trees at 440,000 seedlings.

For livestock, animals to be distributed from the DA Farms and stations include chickens, 4,345; ducks, 2,515; swine, 32; goat, 29; sheep, 12; cattle, 4,389;feeds, 300 bags and azolla, 30 kgs. Planting materials, antibiotics and vitamins will also be provided.
