Another illegal drugs courier, this time from South Africa who was attempting to bring in P92.24M worth of shabu into the country, was nabbed by joint law enforcement operatives at the NAIA Terminal 3 on Friday night.

The interception done by the Bureau of Customs (BOC), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG) came just a day after an arriving Norwegian national was arrested with 8.34 kilos or an estimated at P56.7 million worth of shabu in her luggage also at NAIA Terminal 3.

The latest seizure came at around 11 p.m. on Friday, from a 40-year-old female passenger who arrived in the country via flight EK 334, originating from Johannesburg, South Africa.

Authorities found the drugs hidden in a false compartment of the luggage the woman was carrying.

Subsequently, a field test was made by the Customs Anti-Illegal Drug Task Force (CAIDTF) and the substance tested positive for shabu.

Once a joint inventory was conducted, the shabu found registered a weight of 13,565 grams with an estimated value of P92,242,000.

The said passenger and the shabu were turned over to the PDEA for the institution of inquest proceedings for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act (Republic Act 9165) in relation to Sections 118 (Prohibited Importation), 1113 (Goods Liable for Seizure and Forfeiture) and 1401 (Unlawful Importation) of the Republic Act 10863, otherwise known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).

Before this, Norwegian tourist Rose Alex Moi, 59, widow, special psychiatrist and with address at Sarbuvollveien 1363, Hovik, Norway, was arrested for carrying one luggage containing 8.340 kilos of white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu with an estimated street value of P56,712,000, when she arrived onboard an Emirates Flight EK 0334 from Dubai from Johannesburg, South Africa.
