RAIN or Shine beat Terrafirma Dyip, 91-82, for a share of the lead in the PBA Philippine Cup Friday at the Angeles University Foundation Sports Arena and Cultural Center.

Gabe Norwood, Javee Mocon and Beau Belga carried the scoring load for the Elasto Painters in the first three quarters while Rey Nambatac delivered in the fourth to stop the rampaging Dyip.

Norwood and Mocon scored 14 points apiece, while Nambatac finished with 19 points as the Painters posted their second straight win and seized a share of the lead with Barangay Ginebra, Phoenix Fuel Masters and TNT Tropang Giga in the provisional standings.

CJ Perez cut loose with 26 points, Glenn Khobuntin added 12 and Joami Tiongson 10, but their efforts were not enough to prevent the Dyip from falling to their second straight loss in the tournament.

The Painters entered the last six minutes carrying an 82-66 lead but saw the Dyip unload a scary 10-to-nothing salvo as Terrafirma threatened at 82-76. Fortunately for Painters, Nambatac was there to steer them clear of harm’s way with his big triple, before Norwood came through with a big steal and a basket as RoS made it 87-76, with a little over a minute left.

Both teams could not seem to find their rhythm in the first quarter, having similar horrendous shooting clip. The complexion changed dramatically at the onset of the second quarter, as the Painters began hitting their strides.

With the Dyip’s offensive still in trouble, the Painters opened up a 25-18 lead and following a Terrafirma miscue in transition, Mocon struck for a triple to give Rain or Shine a 28-18 lead, and send the Dyip quickly suing for time.
