Pawnshop employee hurt in Ecija gun attack

SAN LEONARDO, Nueva Ecija — A female pawnshop worker was wounded after being attacked by a lone motorcycle-riding armed man on her way home to Cabiao town on Saturday.

Police head Major Lawrence Lira said Odessa Oreta, 28, single, a Cebuana Lhuillier pawnshop employee, of Bgy. San Fernando Sur, Cabiao, was riding a tricycle when the suspect who was tailing them, fired several times at the rear portion of its sidecar upon reaching Miriam Santiago Road in Bgy. Rizal at 5:30 p.m.

Lira said the victim, who is assigned at the pawnshop counter, was hit in her right shoulder and was rushed to the San Leonardo Infirmary Hospital and later transferred to the Nueva Ecija Doctor’s Hospital in Cabanatuan City.

The suspect, who was wearing a helmet and jacket, fled towards Maharlika Highway going to Bgy. Diversion after the failed slay attack.

Probers are investigating if the attack was a case of mistaken identity.

“Base sa initial po naming imbestigasyon siya po ay biktima ng mistaken identity, patuloy po ang imbestigasyon namin para sa ikalilinaw ng insidente,” Police SSgt. Reagan Barlis told People’s Tonight.

Recovered at the crime scene were two fired cartridges for cal. 45 pistol and a deformed slug.
