WHEN there’s a game on the line, expect Chris Newsome to take action.

Newsome hit the game-winner — a tough baseline fadeaway jumper — as time expired as Meralco escaped with an 95-93 win over Terrafirma in the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup at the Angeles University Foundation Sports Center in Pampanga.

Newsome’s game-winner saved the day for the Bolts, who blew a 10-pont lead in the final four minutes before securing their sixth win in 10 matches.

Newsome finished with 12 points.

But while Newsome made the winning moment, Raymond Almazan did most of the damage with a double-doble of 15 points and 10 rebounds.

CJ Perez and Juami Tiongson shared scoring honors for the Dyip with 21 points apiece.

The two nailed back-to-back triples to cap the Dyip’s rally and tie the score at 93-all with 56 seconds left.

Perez also had eight rebounds and seven assists for the Dyip.

Tiongson finished 4-of-6 from three-point range, who dropped to 1-8 overall.

Earlier, Rain or Shine snapped a three-game slide with a decisive 82-71 win over Blackwater.

Beau Bellga added 14 points and five rebounds for the E-Painters, who improved to 5-4.

Seven other players scored five points or more for coach Caloy Garcia’s team.

I give it to the players. They stepped up today That three-game losing streak started to put pressure to us,” said Garcia, referring to consecutive losses to NLEX (74-94), Meralco (78-85) and Magnolia (62-70) since the league resumed last Wednesday.

Sabi ko nga sa kanila, ang nawala sa atin yung enjoyment of the game after that break,” he added.
