President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., together with Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian, on Thursday (September 18) brings not just packages of government support but words of hope as the Chief Executive checked on thousands of families displaced due to the recent fire in Happy Land in Tondo, Manila.
At the Vicente Lim Elementary School in Tondo, Manila, President Marcos oversaw the distribution of the DSWD’s emergency cash transfer (ECT) to some 2,200 families affected by the September 13 fire incident.
Each family received Php15,109 in cash aid, as well as family food packs (FFPs) and hygiene kits to help them cope and rebuild their lives.

President Marcos also dropped by at the evacuation center in nearby Antonio Villegas High School and happily engaged with the family-evacuees, assuring them of sustained government aid to rebuild their lives.
Going all out on food provisions, the DSWD tapped its two mobile kitchen units from its Field Offices (FOs) in the National Capital Region (NCR) and in CALABARZON to serve hot, nourishing meals to all the evacuees.
Completing the full-force government presence during the President’s visit were Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, Vice Mayor Chi Atienza, and Manila First District Representative Ernix Dionisio.
DSWD Undersecretary Diana Rose Cajipe and Asst. Secretary Irene Dumlao of the DSWD’s Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) were also present to ensure the smooth and orderly aid distribution. (LSJ)
