PCAP upholds Badilles’ win

THE Professional Chess Associatoon of the Philippines (PCAP) upheld the protest of Mindoro against Lapu-Lapu and forfeited both games of female player Cristy Cabungcag during first round action last Jan. 16.

PCAP Chairman Michael Angelo Chua said Cabungcag was found to have played without a camera during her board three match and thus forfeited her games.

PCAP, however, turned down the other protest of Mindoro and confirmed the victory of Lapu-Lapu senior player Odillon Badilles in rapid match on board four.

Badilles was able to prove that he was in the main room and not in a breakout room.

Despite the outcome of the protest, LapuLapu still won over Mindoro with a score of 11.5-9.5.

PCAP also upheld Olongapo’s narrow 11.5-9.5 victory over Isabela.

A protest was earlier filed against Olongapo, which allegedly only had one camera for the whole gameplay

Upon review, it was found that there were enough cameras and hat no unusual activity was noticed by the zoom masters.

As we move forward in the conference, let this be a stern warning to all teams that non-compliance on camera requirements will be dealt more severely and accordingly,” said Chua.

PCAP president-commissioner Atty. Paul Elauria abstained in the resolution of the protest to avoid conflict of interest.
