PCG member shot dead in Port Area

A MEMBER of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) was shot dead by a lone gunman inside his home in Port Area, Manila, Monday morning.

P/Capt. Henry Navarro, chief of the Manila Police District- homicide chief, said Second Class Seaman Muktar Tahajid, 29, of Central Sumisip, Basilan, died instantly due to multiple gunshot wounds in the body.

Investigation showed the victim was chased by the still unidentified suspect into an alley near his home on Block 5, Bgy. 650, Mel Lopez Boulevard at around 5 a.m.

Police said that based on the account given by a resident in the area, he was preparing to open his variety store when he saw the victim being chased by the suspect.

Moments later, shots rang out and when he checked, he saw the victim already dead and sprawled on the ground in a pool of his own blood.

The PCG condemned the killing and is now coordinating with the MPD for a joint thorough investigation.

The victim was brought to a Muslim mosque in Port Area for his traditional burial.
