PCG member ‘with COVID’ found dead

A 38-YEAR-OLD member of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) who was reported to have been found positive for COVID-19 was found dead at Pier 13, South Harbor, Port Area, Manila the other day.

P/Master Sgt. Dennis Suba, of the Manila Police District-homicide section, identified the victim as PO2 Richard Gonzales, said to be a crew of the BRP Corregidor and of No. 111 Harasan, Indang, Cavite City.

The body was found floating at around 6 a.m. by other crew members, at the rear right portion of BRP Corregidor then docked at Pier 13.

Police said that based on investigation, Gonzales was last seen alive on August 26, at around 10 a.m., while entering his cabin.

The victim was said to have been quarantined on August 16 at the Eva Macapagal Quarantine Facility after being found positive for COVID-19.

On August 20, 2020, he was swabbed again and the results that came out on August 23 said he was already negative for COVID-19, so that he went back to the BRP Corregidor.

An inspection on his cabin, where he stayed alone, showed that there was no forcible entry and all his things were also found to have been intacdt.

Police are investigating if the victim’s death was attended by foulplay or not.
