THE long wait is over for FIlipino football fans.
The 2020 Philippine Football League (PFL) presented by the Qatar Airways will finally kick off this Sunday with six teams participating at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.
And although there will be no live audience due to the health and safety protocols by the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF), football fans need not worry about missing all the action.
That’s because games willl be shown live on the online platform of PFL thru the EXPTV Cable Channel nd Eagle Vision CATV Network Channel 80.
“The PFL leadership wants flexibility with regards to the TV coverage. No exclusivity. But want to reach the viewers on a national scope,” said EXPTV Program Head and Research and Marketing Strategist Yanno Ibarreta in last Thursday’s “Usapang Sports on Air” of the Tabloids Organization in Philippine Sports (TOPS) via Zoom.
“We’re already discussing terms with Cignal. Hopefully, we can deal before the league opening on Sunday,” said Ibarreta.
“Right now, it’s all system go for the league’s opening. All participating teams have already checked-in in a hotel near the facility. Fans can watch the game in PFL Facebook page and EXPTV online platform,” he added.
Ibarreta assured football fans that all the action-packed games will be shown by EXPTV using the latest equiptment.
Veteran football commentators and analysts will also add spice to the coverage.
“Sisiguraduhin namin na parang nandoon na rin sa venue ang mga fans sa tulong na din ng aming broadcast coverage,” added Ibarreta.
Six teams are participating in the tournament to be held in a bubble-like environment approved by the IATF and the Games and Amusements Board (GAB).
The six teams are the Azkals Development Team, United City, Maharlika, Stallion-Laguna, Kaya-Iloilo and Mendiola.
The exciting three-game bill this Sunday will kick off with the Azkals taking on Mendiola FC in the curtainraiser starting at 9 a.m.
The other matches will pit the Stallion-Laguna against Kaya-Iloilo and United City against Maharlika.
Ibarreta was joined during the weekly TOPS forum by Philippine Lawn Bowls Association (PLBA) officer-in-charge Ronalyn Redima-Greenlees, Basketball Coaches Association of the Philippines (BCAP) president Louie Gonzales, SEAG Games rowing champion Chris Nirvaez and national rowing team head coach Edgardo Marina.
