PH envoy recalled for maltreating staff

The Department of Foreign Affairs has instructed the Philippine Ambassador to Brazil to return home immediately following release of video footages showing her berating and mistreating her household staff.

Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. yesterday on his official twitter account said the Philippines’ ambassador to Brazil has been recalled effective immediately to explain the maltreatment of her household service staff.

Marichu Mauro is the Philippine Ambassador to Brazil. She has jurisdiction over Colombia, Suriname and Venezuela.

The Filipina household staff left Brasilia on October 21 and is back in the Philippines.

The DFA is reaching out to Brasilia to ensure her wellbeing and cooperation in the investigation.

DFA officials assured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted.

On Sunday, Brazilian news outlet GloboNews showed footage where Mauro appeared to be physically harming her household help.

Mauro was seen either striking or grabbing the household service worker by the hair.
