PBBM thanks Japan for support to expedite infra projects

Japan’s support to the Philippines will speed up the completion of infrastructure projects that will bring immediate benefit to the Filipino people, Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon said.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to expand cooperation and partnership with other countries to bolster the Philippines’ infrastructure development.

Secretary Dizon expressed his gratitude to the Government of Japan, through Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), for aiding the Philippines to modernize the country’s infrastructure network, which in turn will support mobility, connectivity and economic development.

“President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is confident that the cooperation of the Philippines and Japan will lead to the country’s economic growth, improved trade and investments. The DPWH will make sure that the Filipino people will reap the benefits of this assistance for their improved quality of life,” Secretary Dizon said during the 4th Technical and Business Cooperation on Road Tunnel Construction workshop.

The workshop was led by key representatives from both countries, including MLIT Assistant Vice Minister for Engineering and Road Tomiyama Hidenori; Embassy of Japan Economic Minister Yokota Naobumi; JICA Philippines Senior Representative Morishima Takanori; and DPWH Senior Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain and Undersecretary Nicasio A. Conti.

Tackled during the discussions were strengthened technical cooperation and business relations between the Philippines and Japan. Experts and companies from the road and tunnel infrastructure sectors shared knowledge, exchanged best practices, and explored opportunities for future project collaboration.

The partnership will promote technology transfer, technical collaboration, and business matchmaking for the Japan-funded infrastructure projects, as well as the ongoing Davao City Bypass Construction Project and the planned Dalton Bypass East Alternative Road projects.

Japan and the Philippines Strengthen Tunnel Development Partnership

Japan and the Philippines reaffirmed their commitment to advancing tunnel infrastructure through the 4th Workshop on Technical and Business Cooperation for Road Tunnel Construction and Maintenance, held on December 2, 2025, at the Diamond Hotel Manila.

The workshop was led by key representatives from both countries, including Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) Assistant Vice Minister for Engineering and Road Tomiyama Hidenori; Embassy of Japan Economic Minister Yokota Naobumi; JICA Philippines Senior Representative Morishima Takanori; and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Senior Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain and Undersecretary Nicasio A. Conti.

Now in its fourth year, the workshop further strengthens bilateral technical cooperation in tunnel construction and maintenance. It also opens new opportunities for developing safe, resilient, and modern road tunnel systems like the on-going Davao City Bypass Construction Project and the upcoming detailed engineering design for the Dalton Bypass East Alternative Road that will support emerging development corridors and drive long-term economic growth in the Philippines.
