JOINT commemorative stamps featuring the Philippines and India in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations were unveiled by President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of the Republic of India.
The release of the commemorative stamps coincided with the five-day state visit of President Marcos to the Republic of India from August 4 to 8, 2025, upon the invitation of PM Modi.
The stamp features the commemorative logo of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and India. The logo incorporates elements from both national flags and highlights the national flowers of the two countries while the design symbolizes the enduring friendship and shared values between the two nations.
“The Philippine Postal Corporation proudly issues commemorative stamps in recognition of the enduring friendship between the Republic of the Philippines and the Republic of India. This is a testament to both countries’ commitment to fostering mutual understanding, cultural exchange, and meaningful cooperation,” said Postmaster General Maximo Sta. Maria III.
He added, “This milestone is a lasting legacy to the shared history and vibrant ties of the two nations, and it inspires continued partnership and goodwill for generations to come.”
Alvin Fidelson, Corporate Communications Division (CORPCOMM) chief of PHLPost, said that in Indian culture, the lotus flower (Nelumbo nucifera) is a powerful symbol with deep spiritual and cultural significance. It represents enlightenment, purity, beauty, fertility, prosperity, and eternity. The lotus is often associated with deities like Vishnu, Lakshmi, and Brahma, and its imagery is prevalent in Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism.
He added that diplomatic relations between the two countries were formally established in 1949, with a Treaty of Friendship signed in 1952.
