Pinay official of Manila Archdiocese gets appointed to Vatican Bank

A Filipina lawyer who is also a member of the Archdiocesan Finance Board of the Archdiocese of Manila had been appointed to the Vatican Finance Office.

It was learned that Atty. Shiela Marie L. Uriarte Tan was designated as the newest member of the Vatican’s ‘The Board of Superentendence ng Instituto per le Opere de Religione’ on February 4, 2025.

“We welcome Sheila Marie L. Uriarte-Tan. Her impressive experience and leadership skills in international banking and finance will help the IOR enhance the Board renovation process initiated last autumn,” saidn Jean-Baptiste de Franssu, president of the Board of Supervision.

“Her joining us is a significant step towards strengthening the Institute’s strategic goals and improving the quality of services for our clients and the Holy See,” the official added.

The Archdiocese said that Tan finished economics and is a law graduate from the University of the Philippines-Diliman and has a 30-year experience in banking and asset management.

Aside from being a member of the Finance Board, Tan is also a trustee and executive committee member at the Pope Pius XII Catholic Center and San Juan de Dios Educational Foundation in Manila.

She also held an important position at the Bank of the Philippine Islands and served as president and CEO of the BPI Asset Management & Trust Corporation, apart from executive roles she held at the BPI Capital Corporation where she was co-managing director of the Ayala Group Legal.
