PNP-AKG agents capture wanted ex-NPA rebel

PHILIPPINE National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group director, Brigadier General Jonnel C. Estomo yesterday announced the capture of a former New People’s Army rebel accused of involvement in robbery-holdup and gun-for-hire activities in Western Visayas.

In a report to PNP chief, General Camilo Pancratius P. Cascolan, the official identified the suspect as Nory Solinap, a former member of an NPA platoon operating in northern Negros province who became the subject of a warrant of arrest for murder and frustrated murder.

Estomo said that the suspect has been listed as the 3rd most wanted person in Victorias City in Negros Occidental prior to his capture in Barangay Ma-oa in Bago City in the same province around 5:30 p.m. Friday.

The official said that members of the AKG Visayas Field Unit led by Colonel Salvador Alacyang arrested the suspect on the strength of a warrant for murder with no bail recommended by Judge Felipe Banzon of the Bago City Regional Trial Court Branch 69 and another warrant for frustrated murder with a P200,000 recommended bail.

The two warrants of arrest were issued on March 14, 2015, he said.

Estomo said that a record check showed that the suspect surrendered to local authorities to avail of the government’s amnesty program. However, he was monitored to have been involved in a series of robbery-holdup, gun-for-hire and robbery-extortion activities in the municipalities of Victoria and EB Magalona and Victorias and Bago cities and neighboring areas.

Estomo said that recovered from the possession of the arrested suspect were one caliber .45 pistol with four magazines containing several live ammunition and two fragmentation grenades.

The suspect is now being held at the Bago City police station where he will be charged for illegal possession of firearms and explosives prior to his presentation to court for the issuance of a commitment order.
