PNP general cites influx of rebel surrenderers in CL

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga–B/Gen. Valeriano de Leon cited yesterday what he called ‘influx’ of surrendering from the CPP/NPA in Central Luzon.

This came after B/Gen. de Leon, Region 3 PNP director, reported the surrender in Aurora of “Ka Vincent/Ka Bricks” , a former political instructor of Sentro De Grabidad Central Aurora.

Police Regional Director De Leon said the returnee also turned over a hand grenade and 11 books about communism used by the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) for recruitment propaganda.

He is eligible to avail of the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program wherein he will be provided with a holistic package of benefits including livelihood, medical, education, housing and legal assistance,” De Leon said in his statement sent to media

The Aurora Police Provincial Office also conducted an operation in Dipaculao that yielded NPA supplies.

Seized were a pail containing two kilos of rice, a 9mm pistol without serial number, one magazine with four live ammunition, and ammunitions for M203, one NPA Flag, 15-meter wire, 42 pieces of live ammunition for an M1 Garand, garbage bag containing a barrel of an unknown caliber, hammock, and three pairs of rain boots and slippers.

De Leon added that the influx of surrenderers is brought about by the continuing efforts of the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict such as local peace engagement activities and information dissemination.

I am urging those who are still actively fighting the government to lay down their arms and embrace other peaceful means. Our government has several programs to retool you so that you could all become even more productive members of our society,” he added.
