PNP, Makati Med unite to boost police wellness

PHILIPPINE National Police chair, General Camilo Pancratius P. Cascolan and Makati Medical Center Foundation, Inc. chairman Manuel Pangilinan have signed an agreement in which the PNP will partner with the Makati Medical Center in providing health and wellness programs for members of the 209,000-strong police force during the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the signing o the agreement at the PLDT building in Makati City, the PNP chief expressed his gratitude to the generosity of MMCFI executives led by Pangilinan. “I thank the leadership of MMCFI for this kind of initiative that would be a big help to our men and women in uniform,” he said.

Gen. Cascolan said they badly need the help of their stakeholders like the MMCFI in ensuring the health and wellness of their ‘front-liners’ in the government’s effort to help further reduce the spread of the unseen killer virus.

Since last March, a total of 4,947 police officers and men have contracted COVID-19 while performing their duties. Of the total, 16 have died while the PNP Health Service headed by Brigadier Gen. Ronaldo E. Olay is still monitoring the cases of 737 Probable Persons Under Investigation and 3,147 other Suspected PUIs in the police force.

A total of 3,532 policemen have already recovered from the disease however.

PNP spokesman, Colonel Ysmael S. Yu said that the accord is an attestation of the storng partnership between the PNP and the PLT Group which have been developed thru the years.

During also simple ceremonial signing, Gen. Cascolan also received a check donation from the PLDT Smart Foundation, Inc. The money will go to the PSF-PNP Educational Assistance Program, said Yu.
