Jolo Bishop Charlie Inzon has been named by Pope Leo XIV as the new Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Cotabato.
The appointment of Inzon, 59, follows the acceptance of the Pope of the resignation of Archbishop Angelito Lampon, who last March 1 just turned 75 which is the mandatory retirement age for bishops.
The appointment of Inzon was announced at 12 noon at the Vatican or p.m. in the Philippines, on September 8, 2025, coinciding with the Feast of the Mother Mary.
Born in Brgy. Putiao, Pilar, Sorsogon in 1965, Inzon was ordained as priest for Oblates on April 24, 1993, in Caloocan City.
He served in parishes and schools and also headed as President the Notre Dame College at the Jolo atnd Notre Dame University in Cotabato.
He was also provincial superior of the Oblates in 2018 before becoming apostolic vicar in Jolo in 2020 and was ordained as bishop on May 21, 2020 in Cotabato Cathedral and was assigned in Jolo on July 16, 2020.
Currently, he is chairman of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines-Episcopal Commission on Catholic Education (CBCP-ECCE).
The date for the formal installation of Inzon as the fifth archbishop of Cotabato is yet to be announced.
