Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Norman Tansingco thanked President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. for prioritizing the Immigration Modernization Law.
He said that the new law will equip the Bureau with the necessary tools and resources to address contemporary issues and ensure the safety and security of our nation.
“Updating our immigration law is crucial for us to effectively combat human trafficking, illegal recruitment, and other transnational crimes. It will also improve our services to both foreign visitors and our fellow Filipinos,” the BI chief stated.
He added: “The said law, together with other priority measures aimed at driving economic growth, ensuring national security and fostering good governance, were listed in the technical report for the President’s third State of the Nation Address (SONA) which was delivered last July 22.”
The Immigration Modernization Law, he explained, is designed to update and streamline immigration policies, making them more responsive to current global standards and challenges.
It was learned that the BI currently operates on an 84-year-old law that contains many provisions which are no longer in tune with modern times.
“We are thankful to President Marcos for his commitment to modernizing our immigration system. This law is crucial for enhancing our border security while promoting tourism and investment in the Philippines,” he concluded.
