Pusher resists arrest, dies in Lucena shootout

LUCENA CITY — A suspected drug pusher was killed in a shootout with policemen who were about to arrest him during a drug buy- bust at Rodel Compound, Purok Ilang-Ilang 2, Barangay Isabang, in this city on Monday.

Quezon police director Col. Ericson Dilag identified the slain suspect as Carlos Velez Cabarle Jr. alias Jun-Jun, 37, of Purok Yambo, in the said village.

Dilag said the suspect suffered two bullet wounds and died on the spot.

City police chief, Lt. Col. Romulo Albacea said prior to the shootout, his Intelligence and Drug Enforcement Unit operatives conducted a drug buy- bust against the suspect.

After receiving a sachet containing shabu from the suspect in exchange for a marked P500 bill, Albacea said the poseur buyer quickly introduced himself as a cop and ordered Cabarle to surrender.

But instead of surrendering, Albacea said the suspect pulled a cal. 45 pistol and opened fire, prompting the undercover cop and his fellow cops to retaliate killing Cabarle instantly.

Elements of the Quezon Provincial Crime Laboratory SOCO Team led by Major Dickson Mercado who processed the crime scene recovered the Colt MK IV .45 caliber pistol used by the suspect, two empty shells for the said caliber, two empty for a cal. 9mm pistol, two deformed slugs, 10 heat- sealed plastic sachets shabu and the marked P500 bill.
