Aboitiz Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of Aboitiz Group, the Philippines’ first Techglomerate, has brought sustainable energy and internet connectivity to a last-mile public school in Zambales through AuroraPH, lighting the way for new possibilities for young indigenous peoples.
In partnership with Okada Foundation, Aboitiz Foundation recently turned over a 5-kilowatt solar power system and Starlink satellite internet to Baliwet Elementary School. AboitizPower and its subsidiary, Subic EnerZone, provided technical support and digital learning tools, while CitySavings Bank, a UnionBank of the Philippines subsidiary, led capacity building sessions for teachers.
Located 27 kilometers from Olongapo City, Baliwet Elementary School is reachable only through rough, mountainous terrain. It supports 57 IP learners from kindergarten to Grade 6 in a multi-grade setup, guided by four dedicated teachers.
Aboitiz Foundation Impact Lead for Education Jowelle Ann Cruz said bringing clean energy and connectivity to Baliwet Elementary School demonstrates the foundation’s commitment to bridge the learning gap in the Philippines.
“When we light up a last-mile school, we unlock opportunities for learners, teachers, and even the community. This turnover is a reminder that meaningful change happens when partners come together with a shared purpose: to uplift every learner, wherever they may be,” she said.

Oliver Pablo, Principal of Baliwet Elementary School, highlighted the profound impact of having solar power and internet connectivity on their community.
“This support is truly life-changing for our school. We are grateful to Aboitiz Foundation, Okada Foundation, and other partners for bringing hope to our community despite the distance and the challenges. Thank you for joining us on our journey to progress,” he said.

A flagship initiative of Aboitiz Foundation, AuroraPH is bridging the educational divide by delivering renewable energy and satellite connectivity to remote communities, transforming 44 last-mile schools and unlocking new learning opportunities for thousands of students. As the program moves toward its goal of energizing 300 remote schools, it continues to advance educational equity and ensure that no learner—no matter how distant—is left behind.
Through the steadfast support of partners like Okada Foundation, Aboitiz Foundation is strengthening its commitment to inclusive nation-building by empowering remote schools with the resources they need so learners and teachers can drive meaningful, lasting change in their communities.
