Rhian shares lock-in taping tips to other stars

Rhian Ramos

RHIAN Ramos is the only member of “Love of My Life” who has experienced lock in taping when she did the “Truly. Madly. Deadly” episode of “I Can See You”. They’re about to start their taping now for “Love of My Life” and her co-stars Carla Abellana, Coney Reyes and Mikael Daez have yet to experience lock in taping so they asked her for tips.

“What I’ve realized is maganda kung meron kang dalang sarili mong maliit na washing machine,” she says. “Lalo ngayon, more than three weeks yung lock in taping namin so kahit magdala ka ng enough clothes, you’d still need to wash some of your private things na puede mo na lang isampay sa loob ng iyong own bathroom to dry.”

Her performance as a lesbian admirer of Jennylyn Mercado in “I Can See You” got very positive feedback, specially the kissing scene they did.

“I support the LGBTQ community and this is not naman the first time I did such a role kasi lesbian din ako in ‘The Rich Man’s Daughter’,” she says. “Yes, nag-trending daw ‘yung kissing scene namin ni Jen and it’s good hindi na-edit out ‘yun ng MTRCB. I think viewers will get to appreciate more and understand ang plight ng gays kung realistic ang portrayal ng such scenes on screen. We already know naman na this is part of real life. Bakit kapag straight, handang-handa tayong i-explore lahat? Na lahat pinapakita natin kung paano sila ma-in love, ’yung buong kuwento napapakita natin. Tapos, kapag gay roles or lesbian roles, parang iniiwasang maging more realistic ang ipinapakita sa kuwento.”

She’s looking forward to taping fresh new episodes of “Love of My Life”. “Seven months na rin since matigil ang taping namin in March due to the lockdown,” she says. “To prepare, I’ve watched our past episodes on Youtube to refresh myself about the story and my role as Kelly, yung dating girlfriend ni Tom Rodriguez with whom may anak siya. Carla naman plays Adele, the wife of Tom who he married before he died of the big C, Tita Coney is his mom and Mikael is his younger brother na magkakagusto sa akin. I’m really looking forward to continue our taping with them, and with our director, Don Michael Perez. Andami na kasing followers ng show na nagtatanong kung kailan kami magpapatuloy dahil nabitin sila sa mga tarayan namin nina Carla and Tita Coney sa show.”

Alec supports peatland conservation and protection

AWARD-winning Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin supports the DENR and PLDT Smart’s campaign for peatland conservation and protection and he says in a virtual presscon: “Peatlands matter as they are a type of wetlands whose peat soils consist of carbon-rich dead and decaying plant matter. If kept wet, peatlands can store twice as much carbon as all the world’s forests combined. However, its crucial role in mitigating climate change, as well as the huge costs that arise when these natural carbon sinks are damaged, remains largely overlooked.”

Now, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)—through its Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB)—has partnered with digital services provider PLDT Inc. (PLDT) and its wireless unit Smart Communications Inc. (Smart) to help raise awareness on peatlands in the Caraga region.

DENR Secretary Roy A. Cimatu said peatlands are vital for providing safe drinking water, assist in preserving global biodiversity, and help reduce flood risks. “Peatlands are dubbed as ‘one of the most valuable ecosystems on Earth’ according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature or IUCN because apart from all these uses, they also help mitigate climate change and global warming,” Cimatu says.

The DENR and PLDT-Smart will present the conservation program on peatlands in a web activity held on November 6 to kick off the Climate Change Consciousness Week in the latter part of the month. Peatlands to be featured in the conservation program will include the Caimpugan Peatland in the Agusan Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary (AMWS).

Located in Agusan del Sur, the Caimpugan Peatland holds the only recorded remaining intact peat swamp forest—the largest of its kind—in the Philippines. PLDT Chairman and CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan will be the guest of honor for the virtual event. Ramsar Convention Secretary General Martha Rojas-Urrego will also have a special participation because the AMWS is designated as a Wetland of International Importance by the said inter-governmental treaty on wetlands. AMWS is also recognized as a Heritage Park by the ASEAN and legislated as a National Park by the Philippine government.

In July 2020, the DENR thru Assistant Secretary for Climate Change and concurrent Director of BMB Ricardo Calderon and DENR-Caraga Regional Executive Director Hadja Didaw Piang-Brahim signed a memorandum of agreement with PLDT Group Chief Sustainability Officer Chaye Cabal-Revilla, who is also the concurrent PLDT SVP & Group Controller and Smart Chief Finance Officer.

The three-year extendable project to be implemented by PLDT-Smart through its Chief Sustainability Office until 2023 aims to strengthen and support the AMWS-Protected Area Management Office and other concerned DENR offices in implementing peatland conservation and management strategies under the AMWS Management Plan.

Odd pair for new show

Ang daigdig ko'y ikaw
Ang daigdig ko’y ikaw

LOOKS like Net25, the TV Station of Eagle Brocdasting of Iglesia ni Cristo is really going full blast in airing entertainment shows. They started with their noontime show with Janno Gibbs and Anjo Yllana plus shows with Vina Morales and Robin Padilla.

Now, they’re launching their own teleserye, “Ang Daigdig Ko’y Ikaw” (that’s the title of the first movie made by Susan Roces with the late FPJ), starring Geoff Eigenmann with Ynna Asistio.

We’re sure most industry people would say that this is an unlikely pairing, but let’s face it, Net 25 does not have a stable of their own stars so they just have to settle for those who are available at the moment.

They will have a big launch on Tuesday night at the Iglesia ni Cristo Museum on Central Avenue (we’re invited but we’re not going) and this should be a really big affair since it’s the first time NET 25 is inviting the press to a press conference.

Cesar Ian Batingal, their PR officer, says that other stars who are also doing shows with Net25 will also attend the affair, including Vina Morales, Janno Gibbs, Anjo Yllana, Pilita Corrales, Darius Razon, Ruru Madrid (who’s a Kapuso actor but also an Iglesia ni Kristo member), Marco Sison, Marcelito Pomoy, Mia Pangyarihan and Kitkat.

We’re honestly glad that Net25 is taking a more active role in the industry since that will mean more jobs for actors, directors, writers and crew members. It will also mean well for the viewers as they will have more choices of programs they might want to watch aside from those offered by the other networks. As they say, the more, the merrier!
