Road closures in Manila for Sto.Nino Feast on Sunday announced

IN view of the celebration of the Feast of Sto. Niño in Tondo and Pandacan on Sunday (January 15), certain roads will be closed beginning on Saturday, January 14, 2023.

According to a traffic advisory released by Atty. Princess Abante, spokesperson and head of communication of the office of Mayor Honey Lacuna, the following roads will be closed to traffic from 6 a.m. onward on Saturday (Jan. 14): stretch of Jesus Street from Quirino Avenue to Palumpong Street; Palumpong Street from Jesus Sreet to Beata St.; Beata St. from Jesus St. to T. Claudio St.; E. Zamora St. from Quirino Ave. to Hilium St and ML. Carreon St. from T. Claudio St. to Pedro Gil Street.

The road closures will be in effect to give way to “Buling—Buling 2023,” a traditional dance festival marking the Feast of the Sto. Niño De Pandacan. “Buling -Buling” came from “Buli Buli”, a kind of dance to music, using sparkling costumes where the participants are members of the Roman Catholic Church, Sto. Nino Parish in Pandacan and the Aglipay Church also in Pandacan.

Alternative routes may be taken where vehicles from Nagtahan Bridge may take Pres. Quirino Ave. to point of destination. Those from Pres. Quirino going to E. Zamora St. may go straight to Mabini Bridge or turn left Guazon St. to point of destination.

Those coming from Paco-Sta Mesa Bridge Interlink going to Beata St. may use Pres. Quirino Ave. to point of destination.

Meanwhile, in view of “Lakbayaw 2023” in celebration of the Feast of Sto. Niño de Tondo, Abante said that certain roads will also be closed from January 14 to 15 or from Saturday to Sunday, to give way to a motorcade event.

From 12:01 a.m. of January 14 (Saturday), the following roads will be closed:stretch of N. Zamora St. from Moriones St. to Chacon St.; Sta. Maria St. from Moriones St. to Morga St.; J. Nolasco St. from Morga St. to N. Zamora St.; Morga St. from Asuncion St. to Juan Luna St.; Ortega St. from Asuncion St. to Soliman St.; Lakandula St. from Asuncion St. to llaya St.; llaya St. from Lakandula St. to CM. Recto Ave.; Chacon St. from Cano St. to N. Zamora St.; and Soliman St. from Morga St. to Ortega St. / N.Zamora St.

Motorists going to J. Nolascoand the Sto. Niño Chudrch may turn right to Morga Street and go straight to Tuazon St. to Wagas St., or turn left to Asuncion St., C.M. Recto to point of destination.

Those coming from Pritil may take Moriones St. and then Juan Luna to point of destination while vehicles from C.M. Recto/Asuncion St. are tor turn left to Lakandula St. to point of destination.

The ‘Lakbayaw,’ coined from ‘Lakbay Sayaw,’ is an ‘ati-atihan’ dance festival using loud drums also in honor of the Sto Nino.
