CANDELARIA, Quezon — A policeman who is a suspect in a road rage shooting in this town on Sunday night that left a businessman and his driver dead surrendered yesterday.

Quezon police director Col. Ramil Montilla facilitated the immediate surrender of S/Sgt. Angel Ilao Jr., assigned at the Sampaloc Police Station, with the help of station commander Lt. Aaron Herrera.

Montilla said they were able to trace Ilao after a verification with the PNP- Highway Patrol Group – Quezon under Maj. Ira Morello.

“We checked on the license plate of the SUV and we learned that the Toyota Fortuner used by the gunman in the road rage shooting that took place on the night of Sunday on the  bypass road in Bgy. Masin Sur was registered to Maribel Ilao, 41, who turned out to be the policeman – suspect’s wife,” said Montilla.

The official said they learned that it was S/Sgt. Ilao who was actually the one using the SUV.

Prior to the shooting, a Hyundai Eon car driven by Marvin Domenden, 35, of Sta. Ana, Manila, and a Toyota Fortuner driven by an unidentified man figured in a road accident at 7 p.m. on Sunday.

The Hyundai Eon was damaged.

While discussing the accident, the Toyota Fortuner’s unidentified driver suddenly got mad and opened fire with a pistol, hitting Domenden and his occupant, Domingo Dialino, a businessman residing in Bgy Lalig, Tiaong, Quezon.

The suspect then quickly boarded his vehicle and fled.

Charges of double homicide and reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property was filed against S/Sgt. Ilao.
