Rookie cop held for poking gun at civilian

CABANATUAN CITY — A rookie policeman is now in hot water after he was nabbed for allegedly poking a gun at a civilian during a drinking spree inside a Muslim community compound here on Monday night.

Provincial police officer-in-charge Col. Marvin Joe C. Saro identified the nabbed rookie cop as Patrolman Rolliemar Santos, 26, assigned with the Regional Mobile Force Battalion Region 4-A, of Purok 1, Bgy. San Josef Sur, this city.

Also nabbed were the suspect’s father and cousin, identified as Rolando, 46, tricycle driver, and Aldrian, 25, meat store worker, respectively. A fourth suspect was identified as Nikko Astrera, 17, student, of Bgy. Umiray, Sitio Idyang, General Nakar, Quezon.

The cop and his three companions were arrested in Purok 3, Bgy. Rizdelis at 9:30 p.m. for allegedly drinking liquor amid the citywide liquor ban during the modified general community quarantine here.

Saro said the arrested rookie cop will be automatically charged administratively in accordance with the directives of new PNP Chief General Camilo Pancratius Cascolan as part of the PNP’s internal cleansing program that erring personnel must face the consequences of their actions.

SSgt. Xavier M. Corpuz, case prober, said Patrolman Santos poked a gun at Norhasen Porito, 20, of Purok 3, Bgy. Rizdelis after the latter’s companion earlier got embroiled in a fistfight with Astrera.

“Napagsumbungan po ni Astrera si Patrolman, kaya ayun po ang nangyari,” said Corpuz, adding that the four suspects went to the area to visit a friend of the policeman identified as alias Hapon.
Seized from the patrolman was his Taurus cal. 9mm with two magazines containing 26 bullets.

Charges for grave threats and violation of the city ordinance-Executive Order No. 2020-013 on the liquor ban were ordered for filing against the policeman and his companions before the city prosecutor’s office here.
