Rookie cop’s gun goes off, accidentally hits boy, 5

A ROOKIE cop is in hot water after his service firearm accidentally went off hitting a 5-year-old boy in Malabon City.

Malabon police chief P/Col. Angela Rejano said Pat. Christopher Brillantes, 31, presently assigned at the Sub-Station 7 was disarmed and placed on a pre-charge automatic investigation for possible criminal and administrative charges.

The incident, according to Rejano, occurred inside the house of Pat. Brillantes on Block 9C, Lot 45, Hiwas St., Bgy. Longos at around 10:40 a.m. last Monday while he was loading a magazine of his service firearm, a caliber .9mm pistol, before going to his tour of duty.

Rejano said there was a possibility that Brillantes failed to keep away his finger from the trigger while loading a magazine causing it to discharge accidentally, hitting a 5-year-old boy who was inside the house.

The boy was rushed to Tondo Medical Center for medical treatment.

Brillantes refused to be subjected to paraffin examination and instead executed a waiver of admission and accountability into the incident.
