UniTeam senatorial Harry Roque said the next Senate should exercise its oversight functions fully to ensure that public funds are being spent correctly for the people.
Babantayan po natin ‘yan,” he stressed.
Roque, a former congressman, proposed the creation of a “National Health Service” (NHS) to replace the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) would ensure that the government takes all positive steps to protect the Filipinos’ rights to health.
He also stressed that corruption in PhilHealth was at the same level as corruption in the internal revenue and customs bureaus.
Roque likewise pushed for establishing more Internet sites, but the foreign contractor found only 1,000 of the 10,000 proposed sites.
At the same time, Roque said that lawyers should be seated in the Senate as lawmakers.
During Roque’s short stint at the House of Representatives, 10 of 210 bills he sponsored were signed into law by President Rodrigo Duterte.
Roque authored landmark laws on Universal Health Care, HIV and AIDS, free irrigation, and free tertiary education in state colleges and universities.
He also crafted the laws on anti-hazing and free lunch for malnourished children.
