UniTeam senatorial candidate Harry Roque would not hesitate to stand up against corrupt officials should he get a Senate seat.
Roque, a human rights lawyer, said that he fought against the fertilizer scam that happened in 2010.
“Bata pa po ako inexpose ko na ang fertilizer scam, ang swine scam, lahat na po ng scam. Kung magiging senador doon pa ba ko titigil?” Roque said.
“Dati nga aktibista pa lang ako ginagawa ko na ‘yan. Hindi ako natatakot. ‘Pag ako senador dun pa ba ako matatakot? Hindi po,” he said in an interview with DZRH.
Roque urged former Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Luis’ Cito’ Lorenzo in 2010 to reveal all of his information about the P728-million fertilizer fund scandal, which was the focus of a Senate investigation into how former DA Undersecretary Jocelyn “Jocjoc” Bolante disbursed the fund.
He said that corrupt officials would have ‘sleepless nights’ if he is elected as he will run after them.
“Magkakaroon po ng sleepless nights ang mga korap sa gobyerno ‘pag tayo po ay naging senador,” Roque said.
“Isipin niyo na lang po, nung wala akong titulo, nilabanan ko na po sila lalo na po ngayon kung bibigyan tayo ng titulo ng taumbayan bilang isang senador,” he added.
Roque earlier said that the next Senate should exercise its oversight functions fully to ensure that public funds are being spent correctly for the people.
“Kung tayo ay magiging senador talagang paninindigan natin ang obligasyon natin sa taumbayan na masiguarado na tama ang paggastos sa pondo ng taumbayan at kung meron talagang korap sa administrasyon na ‘yan. Lagot po kayo,” he said.
