Roque wants steady source of budget for better management of COVID19 cases

Harry Roque - Presidential Spokesperson

Two years into the pandemic, UniTeam senatorial candidate Harry Roque is pushing for better management of COVID19 cases by providing a ready budget source to minimize, if not prevent, the imposition of lockdowns.

“I am for better management of COVID-19 (cases). What we need is a ‘National Quarantine Law’ that would provide who will sit there as policymakers in case of a pandemic,” Roque said.

“We would have the expertise to provide the policies on what to do and not what to do… We would not need a supplemental budget like we had in Bayanihan 1 and 2. We would already have the infrastructure that we need,” the former presidential spokesperson said.

According to Roque, the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) has done a great job addressing the COVID19 problem with the support of experts from all fields, not just the President’s Cabinet.

On December 21, 2021, the Department of Health (DOH) reported 168 COVID19 cases a day, the lowest in that year.

However, early this year, the country experienced a surge in infection, with daily cases hitting 30,000 largely due to the Omicron variant.
