MANILA Mayor Honey Lacuna and Vice Mayor Yul Servo swiftly responded to the families who were left homeless in a fire that hit a residential area in Sampaloc, Manila on Monday, Sept. 23, 2024.
In her brief message, Lacuna said that while the financial aid they gave the fire victim-families may not be enough, it will help them rebuild their lives anew.
She also heaved a sigh of relief that no one perished or got hurt in the said fire, as she reiterated her earlier calls for all residents to always prioritize saving lives instead of property, in cases of fire.
Too, Lacuna called on them to always be wary of things that cause fire.
Manila Social welfare department chief Re Fugoso said that on orders of Lacuna, the city immediately distributed basic needs like food boxes, water and other items from the office of the mayor.
The fire that hit Sampaloc reportedly began from a house located at No. 450 Amelia Street Brgy 439 Zone 44 in Sampaloc, Manila.
It began at 2:42 p.m. and was declared fireout at 5:51 p.m. and rendered at least 38 families homeless.
