San Antonio mayor issues new travel restrictions

SAN ANTONIO, Nueva Ecija – An executive order effective for two weeks starting April 5 until April 19 was signed by Mayor Arvin C. Salonga on Monday directing the local police and the barangay officials to strictly enforce travel restrictions and border control checkpoints in the town.

Salonga issued Executive Order No. 21 amid the surge of COVID-19 cases in the town which reached an all-time high of 28 confirmed cases, the highest since the pandemic started last year.

The mayor said the stricter measures were recommended by municipal health officer Dr. Robert P. Marcelo as data analysis made on the figures showed that about 71.43 percent of the infections came from outside the town while the rest was acquired through local transmission.

Under Salonga’s new order, non-essential travels are prohibited and entry of people from outside the town especially those coming from areas classified under enhanced community quarantine and other high-risk provinces won’t be allowed.

The mayor also directed barangay captains to advise their constituents that random visits of relatives are strictly forbidden during the two-week restriction period.

Salonga also wants the barangay officials to keep records of those people leaving their homes even for a short period of time for reasons such as attending a wake, burial, wedding and other similar activities.

These records shall be submitted on a weekly basis to him with copies also furnished the rural health unit for information and collation, he added.

As a precautionary measure, every barangay health emergency response member must have close coordination with checkpoint authorities and the RHU to be able to submit the names of those people who were allowed to pass the checkpoints for possible evaluation or placement under strict quarantine, if the need for it arises.
