San Jose City water district hit for cutting off supply

SAN JOSE CITY – The San Jose City Water District was besieged with complaints from irate consumers due to their alleged sudden announcement that they will cut off water supply for a four days due to a broken submersible pump in one of its pumping stations in Bgy. Sto. Niňo here.

On its webpage, the SJCWD said the breakdown of the said pumping station will render two barangays “waterless” for four days starting at 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday until 5 p.m. Friday.

The water service interruption affected Barangays Sto. Niňo 1st and Sto. Niňo 2nd and all other parts of the city serviced by the SJCWD.

These areas shall experience “very low pressure to totally no water” and the duration of the service interruption will depend on the availability of pump and motor parts from market suppliers, said Engr. Cecilia M. Francisco, SCJWD general manager.

This delayed reaction from the SJCWD had local consumers, particularly netizens criticizing the agency for posting the service interruption update over social media after lunchtime on Tuesday, or more than six hours late of the scheduled water cut-off.

As of Wednesday posting time at 9:45 a.m., the said SJCWD social media post about the water cut-off update already generated 166 reactions with 32 angry, 31 sad, 96 likes, 4 laughs, 2 wows, aside from 96 comments and 85 shares.

Francisco assured that immediate remedial measures are forthcoming after they went to Quezon City on Nov. 3 to make an emergency purchase of a new submersible pump to replace the busted one at the Sto. Niňo pumping station.

Bumigay kasi iyung submersible pump, pero bukas (Wednesday-Nov. 4), may kapalit na siya kasi andito ako QC (ngayon-Martes) sa emergency purchase para mapalitan agad tapos kasama namin technician na gagawa bukas pabalik san jose mga after lunch pa kami dating,” said Francisco in a text message to the Journal Group at 4:52 p.m. Tuesday.
