SC justice retires for health reasons

THE Supreme Court accepted the application for early retirement filed by Associate Justice Priscilla Baltazar-Padilla due to health reasons.

The SC announced this development in a media briefer sent to reporters on Tuesday.

Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta reportedly told the court that “Padilla’s condition keeps her from effectively performing the functions of her office as an Associate Justice.”

Prior to her appointment to the SC, Padilla served as associate justice of the Court of Appeals (CA) for 14 years.

She joined the judiciary in 1996 as presiding judge of Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 29, Manila and was promoted as presiding judge of Regional Trial Court Branch 38, Manila in 2000.

She obtained her law degree from the Lyceum of the Philippines, graduating magna cum laude. She placed fifth in the 1984 Bar Examinations.

Born on July 2, 1958, she will mandatorily retire on her 70th birthday in 2028.
