AN elderly Korean national was nabbed in the early hours of May 27, 2025, at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 while allegedly attempting to smuggle illegal drugs during routine security screening.

The 63-year-old Korean man was arrested at around 1 a.m. by operatives of the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (IADITG) which conducted an operation at the Final Security Screening Checkpoint of the International Departure Area.

The suspect was scheduled to board a flight bound for Incheon, South Korea when a substance believed to be Methamphetamine Hydrochloride, commonly known as shabu, was discovered concealed in his sling bag.

Aside from the seized illegal drugs which has an estimated standard value of P34,000.00, authorities also recovered drug paraphernalia, cellular phones, travel documents and identification cards.

Currently, the suspect is in the custody of authorities and will be facing charges for violation of Section 4, Article II of Republic Act No. 9165, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, which penalizes the importation of dangerous drugs.
