MANILA Mayor Honey Lacuna has placed on alert the city’s six district hospitals and health centers in anticipation of the onslaught of tropical storm ‘Kristine.’

Lacuna directed Manila Health Department chief Dr. Poks Pangan to put the city-run hospitals and health centers in readiness to accept possible typhoon-related illnesses on top of regular cases.

It was learned that despite a Malacanang order suspending all work in government offices, the Manila city government maintained skeletal forces to provide needed services.

Apart from Dr. Pangan, Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office chief Arnel Angeles, social welfare department head Re Fugoso, department of public services chief Jonathan Garzo, Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau Director Narciso Diokno and City Engineer Moises Alcantara have also been directed to monitor the situation and immediately respond where they are needed.

Alcantara and Angeles said teams from their office have been sent out to check on fallen trees and electrical wires and road obstructions as well as flood-prone areas.

Fugoso meantime said her personnel have already prepared food packs and hygiene kits for possible distribution in case the situation necessitates evacuation.

For his part, Diokno said ample personnel have been deployed to ensure smooth flow of traffic.

According to Lacuna, the following health centers remained open to assist those who need medical assistance: District 1 – Tondo Foreshore Health center; District 2 – Tondo Health Center; District 3 – OpCen ng Dist. 3 (dating Mabini Health Center); District 4 – District Health Office sa Belmonte Health Center; District 5 – Icasiano Health Center and LIC and District 6 – Lacson Health Center.
