Six PDL Couples Wed Inside Iligan City Jail in Heartwarming Ceremony

Iligan City — Love triumphed behind bars today as the Iligan City Jail–Male Dormitory opened its gates to joy and new beginnings, allowing six persons deprived of liberty (PDL) to celebrate their union in a solemn wedding ceremony.

The rite was officiated by Rev. Fr. Andy Tampus of the Prisoners’ Welfare Ministry of the Diocese of Iligan and witnessed by jail personnel and selected guests. The six male PDL grooms exchanged vows with their respective partners—some from the outside community, others fellow PDL housed at the Iligan City Jail–Female Dormitory.

JCINSP CARMELO A CORSAME, City Jail Warden, expressed his support for the event. “This ceremony reaffirms our commitment to upholding the basic human rights of persons deprived of liberty, especially the right to family life and dignity. Love and transformation know no walls,” he said.

JINSP MARIVIC D VERGARA, Warden of the Female Dormitory, also shared her thoughts: “Moments like these remind us that even within confinement, hope and love can flourish. We are proud to support our PDL in building meaningful connections that inspire personal growth and healing.”

This initiative underscores the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology’s (BJMP) holistic approach to PDL rehabilitation, fostering social reintegration through moral and spiritual development.
